Thanks for everyone who's contributed to and helped me with making this difficult choice as easy as possible. Don't be offended but i think you are obsessing too much. Every single one of them have the same 'sonic' signature. Considering who was involved in the recording, mixing and producing, the end product is below par, sad to ssy. Mazzy , Aug 29, No, I'm not offended at all! I can't think of anything better to obsess over than music, specifically vinyl, as long as you are having fun in the end. I do value what others hear, feel and think about it, even though everything audio subjective and none of us hear things exactly the same.
Ultimately, what I want to get out of this experience is owning the cleanest most truthful version of what was being heard in the studio at the time. Problem is there are many folks who don't always honestly evaluate remasters and reissues For example, I do enjoy much of Mike Fremer's material in Analog Planet, truth is I can't really trust the music reviews anymore.
Too often I've taken advice and purchased something that ends up being a sonic Donkey once played on my system, especially a lot of this remastered stuff.
Forums such as this one offer much more value and truth overall in listening experiences posted, especially when reviewing remastered and reissued vinyl. That's why I read and re-read posts, threads and ask questions until I'm clear, then make my decisions.
Overall, I think the MoFi Layla is going to be my best choice and I'll be happy with it Acquiring one of the few original Atco pressings in mint or near mint condition would be expensive and far more difficult to source. Worst of all is the grading system for used vinyl What one person considers Mint or mint minus is often what another person rates as VG at best.
At those prices, it's too expensive to make repeated mistakes. You can buy a lot of high quality used vinyl for the cost of one poor pick. I have never forgotten the fact that it is after all only an LP and thank God for that, otherwise I would be broke. I just love the sound of vinyl, but I don't crave it and I don't let it control my buying habits. Just saying! James Glennon , Aug 30, Macman , Aug 30, James Glennon likes this. Today I got the chance to stop into both local record shops which are within 3 blocks of my home here in Hanover.
The better of the 2, Vinyl Visions keeps a great, large and well rounded stock of Lp's for sale. Prices are a little steeper than the other local store Whirled Records However , the condition of the stuff is solid and the return policy excellent. I spoke to the owner, he happened to have several copies of Layla. I've done some research, it appears to be an original US pressing, All 4 sided got the same deep clean on the VPI to get the garbage off.
Vinyl condition is bright, shiny like new on all 4 sides, grooves deep and vinyl itself is thick for it's age. There is one minor inner sleeve scuff on side 2 only, no noticeable scratches, the dirt and some liquid staining came off. Repeated plays and cleanings will dig the rest out over time. I'm listening to it right now. Minimal surface noise, the very occasional pop or click.

James Glennon , Sep 12, James Glennon , Sep 15, No, it did not arrive yet, and I'm getting upset with Music Direct at this point. I was told it shipped and would be here last week early. The guy on the phone told me it was to be here last week on Tuesday.
It is Sunday now and there has been no change in status, although I did get a notice my albums including Layla had shipped back on the 6th. I was hoping they would arrive yesterday Saturday the 14th but nothing came. I'll be on the phone again Monday to see if I can get a real answer, since my emails go unanswered.
I never had this problem with Music Direct before, but then again, I have not ordered any vinyl from them since , so anything could have happened. This is why I've been ordering my new vinyl from Amazon or buying new and used locally.
It costs a little more, but I don't get jerked around on promises, even though Amazon did delay my recent order for Layla till later this month, which is why I bought it from Music Direct.
All I know is I've been excited about getting this album for nearly 2 weeks and I'm still waiting for it Macman , Sep 15, Of course it figures,.. My local guy refunded the money, in spite of having another identical pressing in even better shape, for a few dollars more. He was willing to trade it even up.
I still took the refund, applying it to the purchase price of the new MoFi Layla, still in shipping somewhere between Chicago and here. I will play test it and throw in a free Ultra Sonic cleaning before it ships from here. This copy doesn't have any skip stick other issues, is cleaner sounding than the identical pressing I took back. It comes from my dealers personal collection of 20, extra albums which he's culled as stock for the local record shop 2 blocks from here.
PM me if you are interested. Location: Minnesota.
I'm glad this thread is still open. There is no 'great' sounding version of Layla on vinyl, it was never a sonic spectacular. Skip to main content. Filter 3. DK Pete likes this.
