In they toured in Italy alongside Genesis. Their following album Palepoli is regarded as one of the finest hours of the Italian progressive rock movement, characterized by a wild composition fantasy which mixes Neapolitan and Mediterranean sounds with modern progressive rock elements, such as the extensive use of electric guitar and mellotron.
In , despite strife amongst band members, they released Landscape of Life , which included participation from future rock and pop producer Corrado Rustici , brother of Danilo and former guitarist of Cervello , another artistic band hailing from Naples. The band disbanded but reformed in without D'Anna, who was replaced by keyboardist Fabrizio D'Angelo, while the bass role was taken up by Enzo Petrone.

One of many bands from Naples, and strictly connected to Osanna , with Corrado Rustici being the younger brother of that group's guitarist Danilo.
Not unlike Osanna they had a highly interesting fusion of progressive sounds with typical southern Italy and mediterranean rhythms. Their sound is characterised by acoustic instruments such as flutes and horns with four of the five players dealing with flutes and acoustic guitars, but the album is by no means an acoustic one, with complex rhythm changes that sometimes resemble the Lizard-era King Crimson.
Is everything that made Osanna be Osanna and far more. The first CD, full of new music, is a comprehhensive approach to the Italian Progressive Rock in all its forms - the melodic, the hard, the italian chords and motives.
The acoustic guitar of Lino is perfectly aligned with the most electric parts, and several melodies stick in your mind almost imediatelly. The second CD is a re-recording of the classic masterpiece yes, classic masterpiece i used both here Palepoli. Although this could be a recipe for failure even because the re-recording of some pieces in the previous album did not exactly work , the album was respectfully recorded. It maintain all what made Palepoli so huge and add a few more organic flow to it.
Its modern without losing the ' feeling. As Palepoli was a political message, Palepolitana still is. And probably because of so, the re-recording was necessary in the concept gestate by Lino Vairetti.
And, my friends, it works. Essential work to view Osanna, in these lates years, as a prolific group. If you are a fan of Osanna, "Tempo" is a production that should be placed fairly high on your list of material to purchase. The main DVD, documenting a splendid concert from in a high quality manner, is the principal reason for that.
This concert is captured in all its glory, in a truly professional manner on all levels, and the concert itself is an entertaining watch too. The dedicated fans will enjoy the foreword, the detailed credits and the history of the band featured in the book that is a part of this production, and the 20 historical video clips on the second DVD are a nice supplement that should intrigue their core fan base.
A superb package, and one that comes with my highest recommendations. Copyright Prog Archives, All rights reserved. Please consider supporting us by disabling your ad blocker. The basis of their sound is original heavy guitar rock often in combination with amazing flute solos. Additionally, more spacey, Pink Floydian parts and quiet interludes with acoustic guitar and flute can be heard as well. There are plenty of mood changes and surprises that make this music very dynamic and interesting.
Their first three are masterpieces in their own right. The superb "L'Uomo" in which heavy rock and spacey jazz are only a few of the styles included, the soundtrack "Milano Calibro 9" and their best "Palepoli" which is so bizarre and complex, beginners may be too dazzled by the array of styles presented. Studio Album, 4. Studio Album, 3. I was sort of expecting that after playing around in a wise way with their back catalogue for a number of years, very careful to keep it fresh and up with the times, Osanna meaning Lino Vairetti would have had t sink their teeth in their opera maestra.
And what a gorgeous way to do that: a newly crafted, expanded version of Palepoli, which I consider the highest point of RPI together with Banco's first three and possibly up there in the olympus of progressive rock. A new Palepoli comes in guide of Palepolitana, a joyful chant to the city of Naples, with 'Santa Lucia' as my favourite prog song of , all in between neapolitan folklore and serious rock music: a very good point made by a band that was brn almost 50 years ago and can still rock with energy and a point of excellence.
And CD2 is Palepoli itself, bettered if possible, with readable lyrics, where the arcane meets the political, the contemporary issues of 's southern Italy the historical, the mythical the psychedelic. I'd love to see Palepolitana perfomed live I read about 3,5 hours concerts!! Long live Osanna, long live Lino Vairetti. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. We aren't much more than halfway through this Osanna - Landscape Of Life (Vinyl minute song and a ridiculous amount of moods, tempo shifts, Album), instruments and ideas have been thrust out-more than most RPI bands would use in a whole career. If The Miracle LP an album recorded on borrowed time, Innuendo is an album about borrowed time. Disc Two is a completely reworked and recorded version of "Palepoli. This is undoubtedly a controversial choice. The only knock on this would be the recording quality-some instruments tend to unintentionally fade into the background and get lost Osanna - Landscape Of Life (Vinyl this very busy mix.
